One of my favorite shots I’ve ever taken. This steer was hanging out with me at work one day, so I thought I’d capture it in all it’s glory. Texas, y’all.
A farm near where I work in Thompsons, TX.
Melissa, Aimee, Karl exploring the Chinati Foundation’s Dan Flavin installations. Did you know Houston has it’s own Flavin installation as part of the Menil Collection, located at 1500 Richmond? Check it out.
Found this Blue Heeler sitting at the doorstep of one of our Marfa neighbors.
Located off the beaten path and down from a mountain we stumbled upon this creek bend…
It’s lost its way over the years and ended up in the oilfield.
I caught this owl perched in a tree at work one day. I almost didn’t notice it until I took the picture.
I took this photo on a road trip back from New Braunfels, TX after a weekend on the river. We took the long way home, the only way to see Texas: the long way.
My girlfriend was speaking at Winter Street Studios in Houston, TX, and I wandered outside around Houston’s FIrst Ward Arts District. The area is still home to manufacturing and shipping companies, due to it’s proximity to the railroad. I love that the rail runs right through the studio. Speakers even have to pause mid-presentation to respect the train. :-)
I was very proud this year of my alma mater University of Houston as they nearly went defeated in football. This photo was taken at the C-USA Championship game against Mississippi State. The Coogs lost this day, but a much deserved sold out game for the home team. Go Coogs!
Once of my most memorable experiences of all of 2011, and possibly of my life: I won tickets to see my favorite band, Wilco, at the famed Austin City Limits program taping. No cameras were allowed during the show, so I snapped this of Nels Cline’s guitar before the show began.
This young man sat in front of us at the UH vs. Mississippi State conference championship game. We ended up in the visitors section for the game, and it took everything in us to congratulate their fans on a game well-played. But we did. Thanks, Kevin.

Old Town Richmond, TX, barbershop
Thompsons, TX – This is something I’ve only heard stories about: two bucks battling it out during the rutting season and getting hung up. I received a report that it happened in the field I work at. I was able to safely capture a photo using Hipstamatic. We were able to rescue the surviving buck and release him back to the wild, the other suffered a broken neck and did not make it.
One of many sunsets we caught in magical Marfa, TX.
Marfa, TX – There’s an old commercial fueling station in Rosenberg that I’ve always wanted to shoot. My father use to do business with them as part of his oilfield job and I remember visiting it when I was young. After visiting Marfa, TX, I looked of to the side of the main road and found this about 3 blocks down. Right away I thought of that old station and had to capture it.
Rockport, TX bird in flight
I found this dog wandering around the field one day. It was in pretty bad shape. Gave her some water and some food, and she’s feeling a lot better. She just might turn into the official field dog.
